SPORTS RELEASE: 6TH CYC PEACE CUP, FINALS

Chandigarh: The final of the ongoing 6^th CYC Peace Cup was played between Panjab University I and Zaliangrong Students Club Chandigarh ( Manipur) here today at the Football Stadium Sector 17 Chandigarh.

PU-I took the initial lead in the game and scored a goal in the first ten minutes of the game.

ZSC tried to comeback and scored one goal. PU-I strengthened their stronghold by scoring three more goals by the end of the first half, score stood as 4-1 in their favor.

As the second half began, PU-I were against in the aggressive mode . They scored three more goals and won the final by a comfortable margin of 7-1.

This is the third consecutive time PU has won the CYC Peace CUP, playing every time against the same time, ZSC.

Mayor Anu Chatrath gave away the trophy to the winning team and distributed certificates among the players.

Shubham Gupta of St. Stephen’s football club was given the golden boot award for scoring the maximum number of goal in the tournament.

SPORTS: 6th CYC PEACE CUP – DAY 4

Chandigarh:  The fourth day of the tournament may turn out as the transition point in the entire tournament. There was nothing new in the first game, while the second game played out till the last second.

The first game was played between Dark Bladers vs Zeliangrong Student Union Chandigarh . Only three words are sufficient to describe the entire game, the clash was that of “ Lion vs Lamb” with the ZSC boys playing the role of Lion. The game was a single sided affair in the first half with the score standing at 9-0 in favor of ZSC at the end . Only a miracle could now save the Dark Bladers, but it never came. ZSC ticked the score card six more times in the second half to take the game home with a jaw dropping score of 15-0 in their favor.

The second game got the adrenaline pumping among the spectators. The game was played between NPS and Panjab University-II. The game was highly electric with the score standing at 1-1 at the end of first half. In the second half also both teams fought till the end and scored one goal each. The score at the end was 2-2. Since this was a knock out game, it went to the tie breaker. Both teams were given nine strikes.  PU-II team converted 8 of those into goals, whereas NPS just lagged PU-II by one shot, and were able to convert 7 of the nine strikes into goals.

Punjab University –II won the game with the final score standing at 10-9 in their favor .  

Tomorrow first game will be played between Manipur Students Association (MSAC) and Chandigarh Mizoram Union ( CMU). The second clash will take place between Africa United and Dark Bladers.

The matches are being played in the Football Stadium Sector 17, the final of the tournament will be played on 20^th October.

SPORTS: 6th CYC PEACE CUP – DAY 3

Chandigarh: On the third day of the tournament things were mostly single sided just like yesterday. Two games were scheduled today.

In the first game between Chandigarh Mizoram Union and Evangelical United the Mizoram team was in dominant mode from the very beginning. By the end of the first half they were leading the game with a score of 5-0 in their favor. In the second half the Evangelical United team displayed some of their best efforts, but all were foiled by the Mizoram team. Chandigarh Mizoram Union won the match comfortably with a score of 8-0.

The second game was played between St. Stephens Football Club Chandigarh and Tangkhul Students Chandigarh representing Manipur. The game was highly competitive, with the goal keepers of both the teams in the limelight as they foiled goal attempts by the opponents successively. The score was 0-0 by the end of first half.

The second half was turning out as the reflection of the first half with the goal keepers foiling opponent’s attack continuously , with twenty minutes left in the game St. Stephens Club took the reins in their hand and scored three goals.

The final score stood as 3-0 in favor of St. Stephen’s Club Chandigarh.

Tomorrow first match will be played between Zeliangrong student union Chandigarh vs Dark Bladers. The second game will be played between N.P.S.  And  Punjab University football club II.

The final is scheduled for 20^th October. The event is being held in the football stadium sector 17 Chandigarh
